Pike Place Market-Seattle

Pike Place Market

Safeco and Qwest Fields in the background

Wednesday, June 24th...
Today we felt adventurous and decided to try the public transit system - giving Ted a break from driving in the traffic and then hunting down parking,,so off we went to catch bus 180 out in front of the campground,,simple enough,,buy a ticket,,ask for a transfer,,find a place to sit,,away we go...of course we never bothered to ask just how long this journey make take but after the first few stops I decided we better get comfy,,,an hour later and one mad dash down the sidewalk to catch the 150 at Kent Station,,,we arrived downtown underground terminal,,,almost like London and the tube, but not so busy,,,up four blocks and down to Pike Place,,,downhill all the way,,,thinking that a rainy Wednesday afternoon wouldn't be so crowded,,,NOT - it was elbow to elbow,,a plethora of smells and the barking of the fishmongers echoed throughout the market, not to mention the fruit and vegetable mongers,,needless to say it really didn't take us all that long to walk through the majority of the market,,take our photos,,enjoy a cup of chowder,,and find our way back to the underground bus terminal,, our puppies were barking louder than the fish mongers,,,the ride back didn't seem as long for some reason and I know Ted enjoyed not having to fight traffic as we did manage to stay long enough to get into the peak period of travel,,,I think the public transit system is a necessity,,and to me a humbling experience,,I'm a people-watcher and couldn't help but notice the variety of passengers as they got on and off the bus,,, the young lady with her unlit cigarette posed and ready to light the minute she sat foot on the curb,,the tattoo guy with the sleeveless shirt and gold earring,,the lady with three ankle biters in tow with one crying,,the bicycle dude looking like he just finished the Tour de France ,,,pierced lip guy with his laptop and headphones ,,student reading her book,,,mamacita with two ninos trailing behind her carrying a 8 pack of toilet tissue,,then there was the homeless dude - at least he smelled homeless or either he just didn't like to bathe,,other than the crying baby the bus is pretty quiet as most all passengers [other than us] have headphones on plugged into ipods are whatever,, a few smiles here and there are exchanged,, but overall the bus driver is the only one talking and that is just the announcement of stops,,overall, it was not a bad experience, just a long, tiring and learning experience,,,we all have places to go and things to do and ways to get us there,,what a wonderful world we live in,,,,enjoy our photos of downtown Seattle and Pike Place Market - view from the wharf side
the pink pig is a popular place
to have photos made - not sure just why? but here it is...especially for Gracie!
ya never know who you will run into,,,,he's much taller than I thought...
this is a monkfish,,don't think
I would want this on the end of my hook! YIKES,,

fishmonger shoveling ice at the Fish Market -....below is a little video that Ted took of Ryan tossing a fish over the displays to behind the counter,,seems when a fish is bought this is the way it is transported to bag and ready for the customer-saves going back and forth and it's pretty entertaining as well...
